According to the free dictionary, A peat bog is:"An area having a wet, spongy, acidic substrate composed chiefly of sphagnum moss and peat in which characteristic shrubs and herbs and sometimes trees usually grow."
They tend to occur in the Northern parts of America and Europe, as it is considerably wet and the conditions are suitable.
